Winter and the SS
Anyone gonna be driving their SS in the winter.......just wondering how the tires are in the snow........get as much snow as fellas in Michigan or Northern NY State. Anyone driven the SS on the 18's in a fair amount of snow yet??

I wil be driving it in the winter. The Michelin Pilots kind of suck but if youre carefull you will be ok. I might get a set of snow tires and call it a day

I picked up my SS 1/31/08 and drove through a very snowy Michigan winter. The Michelin's did much better than I thought they would!
You have to keep your foot out of the throttle, but overall they do very good. I live in a rural area that doesn't get plowed very quickly, and there where many mornings I went into work and the front airdam was "plowing" through the virgin snow. I do have the LS diff, so that probably helps. My wife has an LT HHR with the 16" all season Firestones and the SS did just as well as hers. |
I will...
but I'm at Pearl Harbor now so it really doesn't mean much.

I will be driving the wheels off of mine this winter. I bought a set of 16" steelies and Blizzaks for winter shoes. G.B.

16" steel wheels and Blizzaks here. I'm confident the LSD and snow tires will get me out of most situations, esp with a manual which allows second gear starts.

Are there any front brake clearance issues running 16" wheels?
|
I am going with Wheel Vintique wheels in 16" and Goodyear Assurance Triple Treads. They have worked great on my wifes car.
The 16" wheels should work per the wheel MFG when I called them. I will get one here at work and trial fit it before I paint them. I will post the results. Be aware I do not have the Brembo package and it may requaire at least a 17". But I think the standard SS brakes should not be an issue for a 16" wheel. |
The Cobalt guys (the HHR maybe different?) are saying 17" is the minimum.
