I can reach the buttons to push them from the hatch.
I can't reach the buttons to push them from the captain's seat.
I use maps often and only use the hatch occasionally.

I took a ride tonight and was amazed at the difference.
I could definitely read a map from the dome light now.
It beats the hell out off flopping maps on the dash and sliding them around under the mirror's tiny light.
It is now how it should have come from the factory.

100x worth it

I did the dome light spin. If you have not done this yet you need to do it. I now have light where I need it and if I need it in the back I just need to pop it on with the push lights.

I only wish I had foot well lights now.

The funny thing is Chevy uses the same dome light in the new Malibu and the door light is to the front and the map lights are to the back the oppisite of the HHR. I just found that odd.

I tried doing a turnaround of my dome light last week.
Had no luck. Just didn't seem to be enough slack in the wiring to spin it all the way around and didn't want to force it and I did reach in and push the wiring "loose" from the tape holding it to the headliner.

You could also add a 2nd dome light like i did, That made the biggest difference. can be a pain to do this, but well worth it if you ar handy. I know there is somebody who actually posted how to on the forum somewhere. also Adding a second dome light will probably cost abour 60.00 or so in parts.

Just wanted to bump this up because it's so damn usefull.

I use my lights controlled from my captains seat up to 10 times or more per road trip.
I've used my hatch lights (push lights) less than 10 times total.

They should have sent them out from the factory this way.

Thumbs up

Well, just did my 'dome light spin around'.....What a difference.. I can actually see at night (when I need to).. 15 minutes, mainly cause I wiped off all the lights w/alcohol & etc...

Such a simple mod... For such a Great lighting improvement..

Now as hyperv6 stated, "I only wish I had foot well lights now".

I just did this and MAN are they BRIGHT!!! I went to SuperBrightLEDs.com and bought the bulbs below. They are fairly cheap and are bright as a MOFO!!! Only one problem, which I will soo figure out is because there is about 8Volts powering the Festoon bulbs, when changed to LED's there is enough power to very dimly light just the festoon bulbs. I'm sure a diode or resistor in line will change that.

I have two dome lights installed so I bought 6 194 bulbs detailed below. 4 for both Dome Lights and two for the mirror map lights. & I bough Two Festoon Bulbs. They are very very bright, and light up your inside like nothing else will.

2 X Festoon Bulbs = http://superbrightleds.com/specs/RL4410-xHP9.htm
6 X 194 Bulbs = http://superbrightleds.com/specs/wled-whp6.htm

Both bulbs were purchased with Cool White Color Temperature!
