Hood Insulation Logo

I came up with this idea from a Cobalt SS that I saw at the NY Auto Show. Here's how to paint a logo on the hood insulation:

1) Trace the SS logo on the side of the HHR with a piece of printer paper and the side of a pencil in order to obtain the proper logo dimensions (this can be done with the HHR or bowtie logo as well)

2) Scan the tracing on a printer/scanner/fax machine

3) Tighten up the image by underlaying it onto a graphics app and refine the cut off lines (use visio, photoshop, etc)

4) Print out the logo on 8.5" x 13" printer paper

5) Cut out the image with an Exacto knife to create a stencil

6) Remove the hood insulation from your HHR by "twisting and pulling" on each of the circular fasteners (without breaking any).

7) The liner has a good amount of inherent static charge, so the stencil will lay out nice on the insulation, but tape the corners. Then follow it up with newspaper around the stencil to prevent overspray.

8) Spray paint the logo/stencil. (I used Krylon appliance white). Use about 10 light coats, as one wet coat will absorb too much at one time. You only have to wait about 2 min between coats, so as long as the paint "sets".

9) Peel away the stencil and newspaper and reinstall the insulation.

Looks good, how well will it hold up with the engine heat and all?

So.. the 09's have the hood liner back on.....

No liner on the '08 SS.
If you use a full sheet label (8.5x11) then is can be stuck to what you ar painting then remove your outline.

How did you manage to get a hood liner?

I can only think that since my hood already rubs on the air filter box that the liner would hit it even worse.
But, if I did have a liner that logo would be cool to have.

I,m confused, My SS does not have the insulation. I've read that GM left it off of the SS' to realease more heat , instead of basically blanketing in the heat. ????

I assumed that they all had them. Mine's an '08, but it was preowned when I bought it (6.5k mi)... I don't know if there should be an RPO code for it, but mine had 2 that I could not decipher. C2Y QO1

Anyway, I got this idea from the Cobalt SS Turbocharged that I saw at a show, so I'm not sure if the reason to include/not include it is heat or "cheap" releated.

Maybe it depends upon the prod run? ChevMgr, any light on this?

I believe all 2008 HHR SS models were hood insulation delete.. ?

Yea i spoke to a one of the engineers and he told me they left it off because of hood clearance. I guess with it on it hits the air box?
