To fix the armrest slope problem without going back to the dealer. An easy mod. Takes about 1/2 hour.
Supplies needed:
2 #10-24 self tapping sheet metal screws.
14MM deep socket or 14MM socket with short extension.
Cordless screwdriver
socket to fit self tappers

Instructions:
1. Sit in drivers seat and recline it part way to give room to work on passenger seat.

2. Grab cap and pull it out.



3. Using 14mm socket, unscrew bolt that holds the armrest on.

4. Remove plastic washer on back of armrest and put it on the bolt then screw the bolt back into the seat (so you don't lose the washers!)



5. Using the cordless screwdriver and socket to fit the self tapping screw, drive the screw into the end of the slot at the far end of the armrest.



6. R & R the bolt from the seat (replacing the washer on the armrest)

7. Replace the cap.

8. Raise the drivers seat to the full upright position.



9. Repeat on other side.

This might be the only thing that those of us with 2007 and 2008 HHRs can do since the TSB is for 2006 only

Tried that a couple months ago but didn't like it. Found that I couldn't rest my hand on the shifter lever as comfortable as before and figured GM actually made sense after all when they had that slope on the drivers side. But then it depends on how far you have the seat back leaned also. IMO

Finally got it done. A whole 15 minutes, and the arm rest is now in proper position. Thanks again for posting the how-to and pics!

 

I had the TSB applied to my 2006 and it didn't really help...still not right.

 

Doing it this way, you can adjust it to where you want it. You could even make it so it won't come down. (if you like )

I thought the same thing when I noticed the driver's side arm rest is lower. It's not much lower, but there is a difference.

Like you said, I think it makes it easier to reach the shifter, but I already thought about using a screw in the slot to bring it back even with the pass. side.
