Some kind of Kryptonite I think, that's why Superman gets all weak kneeded and wobbly around HHR's.

Glad you got it fixed up Buddy.

socket fix

2008 HHR, Drivers side wiper stopped wipin'. I used the directions from the first post to get most of the way there (also gave me the confidence to dig around in the first place).

Instead of drilling and bolting, I used a heat gun to soften up the socket then I molded the edges over with a screwdriver to restore the lip of the socket. Let it cool a bit, and snapped the ball back into the socket with considerable force. Some hard tugs would not pop it off again so I feel pretty satisfied with the repair. I will update this post if it fails.

Thanks all for the tips and the help to not spend 150+ to replace the entire transmission for a tiny worn out plastic cup.

A great BIG THANK YOU for the how to description and pictures in this thread. Just happened to our 07' drivers side this morning and with our great weather here and a #10 machine screw drilled and tapped, in all is good now.

Just fixed my buddy's in about 45 minutes. The pan head stainless screw was a 1 inch 10-32. I had to buy the right bit/tap.so the fix cost about $8. Thanks.
