how can I remove the piece of plastics surrounding the shifter lever? I mean the one with shift indicator, not the chrome ring.

Thanks.

I have an automatic. Will any automatic shift knob work with the HHR, or are there specific ones. How do I know if they are compatable? Thanks...

One note on this, which is great and a BIG help............

I found that you have to actually turn the chrome post one half turn to be able to lower it to get to the retaining screw. This was also the case for the leather boot on the new model.
