Thanks for documenting this John. It looks like the damage may have been caused by the prior wrenching? You said you had already removed this a time or 2.

Oil cooler was on early 2006 2.4 engine, but also on all the 2.0 SS's.

Here's a link to a thread where a member had relocated the cooler. I never understood the logic, the O-rings are still down there, and they're still going to go bad. Maybe that plate is easier to remove than the cooler. For anyone interested, here's the link
