Simple GPS mount
firemangeorge idea revisited:
Went from a class B mount to a class A
Used a mud flap, just so happened to be GM and cut it to size. Wooden dowels are 8 1/2" with a 4" distance between them. Could be made shorter but I found it was easier to install into the vent honey comb. Also found you don't have to push in so hard, if you do you might break the plastic of the comb.
The distance to the face of the dash does not touch anything.
GPS mount would not stick to flap so added Velcro.

Cleaned it up and soften the corners.

I used a lid off of a tuna fish can as the steel/tin plate for the mount. The can opener I have leaves the ridge of the can still on which gave to more rigidity. Also added a large piece of Velcro to the back of it.
I also found a lid off of a soup/bean can will work also, just a little smaller in diameter.

Installed the suction cup mount.

And then the GPS

Going to go for a ride and get back with the review.
As a side note to George the R2D2 on top is in plain site.
Yeah I also know you "purists" will say why don't you paint it black. I will after I listen to the Stones.

OK here it is.
I found some streets in town that were striped of assault.
Not crazy dumpy but rough enough. Went slow as to make the mount move.
Ever see the MythBusters about this?
I'll give this mount 98%.
If the mud flap was thicker I'm sure I would then give it a 99.
At least mount B stay's stable compared to mount A that wanted to sway over bumps.
Here's a picture from the side what it looks like installed.

Now I have an itch to show you guys how I used to mount my Xoom... stay tuned
edit: couldn't find the original mounting in my drawer-o-stuff, but I did dig up a picture:
just a bent piece of metal and some fishing line. It was a nice setup back in the day when the Xoom wasn't a dinosaur but hey
edit 2: not the most practical but I just sort of did this for giggles:
