Tail light mod

So, I finally got around to getting this about 95% completed. Huge thanks to Peevlos for the help, advice and work space

Overview: pulled the bullet reverse lights, install (lenses going in this weekend) another set of uppers into lower holes, wire them all together to have 4 blinking/braking reds. LED strips installed where reflectors go for reverse duty.

First off, poached some parts from a junk yard LT. Bought the pig tails, plugs, and one of the upper bucket brackets (the other was gone, ordered from Chevy $4.50)

Next, pull the bumper cover and bottom lights. To install the upper buckets into the bottom holes requires a few beers and a dremel.

The pig tails are color coded by side. Splice them into the existing harness accordingly and tape/wrap/lume to desired look and fit.

The LED strips into the reflector spot is up to you...Brian had a fantastic idea: mount the strips into the reflector so it fills the gaps and makes for easy mounting. Also has some reflector left to keep it "legal"

Wired to reverse, rans lines through the grommet in near the battery for the side markers.

Test fit of lenses (will post pics of 4 lit up when I get them in this weekend...everything is wired and working)

This is a link from lightbg detailing more about the LED install, part #'s

X2 Liking those reverse lights......

Are they flat or is the LED overlayed on the reflector?

I should've taken a picture...the LED strips are recessed into the reflector. It's probably 3/8" thick, so it sits as low as possible. Lots of cutting/trimming of the reflector. The LED strip actually protrudes from the bumper a bit, same as lightbg's does in the link.

Interesting, I have had a variation of this idea in my head for 6 months now, what are your plans for the lower lights?

I'll have one extra set of reverse lights, if you're interested. I should get my other upper bucket bracket on Friday from McClusky Chevy...once that comes in, I'll be able to put the uppers into the lower holes and plug the bulbs in for functioning uppers and lowers
