Wolo Bad Boy Air Horn Install (dial up hating)

I hate our stock puny horn. Ya know the only time a high pitched horn on a car was cool was a Plymouth Roadrunner! After that, it's simply not cool.

So a easy fix.

I heard one the other weekend and thought it was straight forward enough to just install one.

Here's a sound clip from Airhorn Al's website

For my 2010 SS here's how you get in there and install it. Could vary slightly for other models.

This may be able to be done without removing the front drivers wheel but for me it was just easier. So I did.

Remove the 2 push pins on the front wheel well

Remove the one 7mm screw above

Then behind the wheel remove one more 7mm screw.

Under the car/just behind front bumper remove one more 7mm screw and 3 more push pins.

Fold the inside plastic wheel well back to get access. You find this.... again, I have my HID ballasts in here so you may not have that.

Horn is way up front

Unbolt it with a 10mm socket.

Once out of the car, unplug it, and the 10mm holding the horn to the bracket.

You have to drill out the bracket where the horn mounted. 5/16" will work with the bolt provided by Wolo

I used an extra nut to make it mount flush, you could also trim the bracket to get it mounted properly.

Quick comparo

Cut back the wiring loom

Cut the stock wiring harness connector off

A couple simple crimp on spade connectors

Black wire to negative & green wire to positive on the Wolo

Upon testing it, the HHR didn't like the new horn. It blew the 10amp fuse. So I put in a 15amp and let it go. I figure it's not really drawing all the time. And for the record, I did try to run the relay provided but it didn't work with the stock wiring. So far so good this way.

Mount your new horn with modified stock bracket in place. I have it aimed downward to ensure no water gets into the Wolo. PERFECT

Put it all back together and enjoy!

I put in the exact same horn on my 2010 SS and I love it. I did mine about 3 weeks ago. I read a few places here and went ahead and put the 15 amp fuse before I even honked it the first time. I love mine. It is so much better than the whimpy horn it came with.

Nice tutorial for those who want to do this mod.

Yeah I see in the instructions for a relay wiring for a 20amp fuse, but I honked... pop went the 10amp. Put in a 15amp... honked for a good 10 seconds, no issue. That really is longer than any normal person would honk anyway. Even if you lived in New York or something where honking is a way of life.

Chris-
nice write up & pics.

The Horn relay is 20amp, & the 18ga factory wiring will support 20amp all day long.
So adding a 15amp fuse is still the weak link as it was intended to be for obvious safety reasons.,..

No No.. Always have a fuse rated Lower than the wiring or relay.. 15a is fine.

Anything happens, fuse blows first & protects everything $$ else & is cheapest thing to replace..

Oh ok... I know that. It's good to know that a 20amper will go in ok, if need be.

Yes but using a 20amp & the relay & wiring are at a safe 20amp, I would avoid it, if possible.. If you ever had a problem, the fuse might not blow & something else might..

It's easy enough to wire a separate relay if needed..
