How cool would a black and gold Cosworth Vega Panel Wagon be?

 

I remember that the HHR has used a lot of proven Cobalt/Sunfire technology. Basically, its a Cobalt "wagon".
The Vegas' design(which didn't have front inner fender liners and other flaws) was metaphorically "pulled out a hat" to compete with the onrushing Japanese imports & Ford Pinto.

I enjoyed my Vegas, & had several.. Fav was my '72 wagon I slipped a SBC into..

Biggest problem with the vega 4 banger was that the cylinders were alloy, same as the block.. About 40K (if lucky) & she was smoking..

Fix was to pull engine, bore the cylinders & press in custom made iron sleeves, kinda like Diesel engines are built to do....

 

Funny you should mention the wagon. Back in 73 I had a Yellow w/black Striped GT family car, then I picked up a Vega Panel Express to play with. Kept the GT stock, but got a kit from Don Hardy Race Cars and put a 283 with a worked Powerglide in the Panel. Had to go real easy on the go pedal even with the powerglide cause it would break axels like crazy. Was a fun car...but you also had to watch your temp..especially in the summer...couldn't get enought radiator under the hood with a V-8 in there. The other problem I had was breakin windshields when I got on it. The body flexed way too much...then Hardy Race Cars came out with stiffners that went from the shock towers to the firewall and that helped that. Rust between the firewall and inner dash finally killed it...the GT turned into a boat anchor after about 60k and I sold it to some kid that wanted to build a bracket car...don't know if he ever did it or not.

Cool, I never had a Panel Express, but did have a '73 Estate wagon that was kinda cool w/its fake wood..

That lil rearend was not made for V8power.

Not surprised, love mine and wouldn't take anything for it. Sure it has a few problems now and then but what vehicle doesn't?

I have more and more people ask me if I want to sell it in the most usual places around town. I think they are going up in value.
