last night i was looking at getting different insurance to start on 9/19/2007 when my old one expires on the 20th. i was about to pull the trigger, but decided to call Progressives customer service before i did. i left my laptop on my bed...well my baby brother(actually my nephew we have raised) decided to mess with my laptop and pushed the enter button i assume and sent payment. when i came back the home page was up and i immediatly checked my back and there was a $730 pending payment.
i called and emailed progressive and they said they could cancell my policy, but i would not get a credit back until 3-5 business days after th 19th...that sucks. thats over two weeks without my money.
Bank of America told me i would have to wait until tuesday, then i could file a dispute. at that point it they would credit me back the amout temporarily until they retrieved the money...is that the way it works???
what if they do not recover the whole amount? am i at complete fault? does progressive have the right to hold my money that long although i will actually not any coverage with them at any point? dunno guys i am a bit scared of losing a red cent...i dont necessarily need the cash right away, but i wanna make sure it makes itself back home.
if you been here before please let me know what the process is and if i should be worried at all?

This sounds about right, not fair, but the way it always seems to work for me too.
When you pay, they take the money right away. But for some reason, when they give it back, it seems to take forever.

so if i put in a dispute, my bank will credit my account and then fight with them for 2-3 weeks before they recover the money? i will get my money credited back correct and the bank fights them?

Had something similar happen to me. Seems that someone got my info and sent a $900+ donation to a foreign country on my behalf. I called the bank and they reversed the charges effective immediately. This happened on a Friday night and I did not see the charge untill Monday. I did take a week or so to finalize the reverse but the money was posted back to my account immediately so I did not bounce any checks etc. I now will not use PayPal as that is the only place the info could have been received from.. Hope all works out for you, I am sure it will.

First what's the dispute? The vendor agreed to process a credit. It can and does take a bit of time.Originally Posted by quest51210

Second as a charge to a credit card, what diff does a few days make to have a credit put on it? It is not like it is $$ out of your bank account right away.
Relax. If Progressive does not refund you in the agreed period, then file a dispute. But this is a dicey one since no one can authenticate your story. From the Bank's and the Insurer's POV, it could very well have been you that "pressed the button". But as long as you have made contact with the parties, and you have done what was required to cancel your insurance in the first place you shouldn't have a problem. Most vendors are quite fair and reasonable.
That said if your policy was continued upon reciept of payment, you could very well lose enough premium to cover the days you were actually insured ( the two weeks or so).
chill out man...maybe if you read my posts, it has been taken care of...no issues. get off my back here and on my other thread.
