That's what I remember. I don't think I have ever seen gas used until this video

Yes gas was used but really just for show. I would say raw gas on early compound slicks probably would soften them. After bleach came rosin also, then after that, just prep the track surface.

Being the driver in that vintage front engine dragster, that had to be wild being engulfed in flames using gas.

Use just old engine oil on the low, low HP cars I had.
