HHR plant, Closing doors for a few days
Looks like production will slow down for a couple of weeks in the upcoming months.
At the auto maker's plant in the northern city of Ramon Arizpe, where more than 600 layoffs are scheduled to take place this month and next, General Motors plans to stop production for six days in March plus the entire week of Easter, in April. The Ramon Arizpe facility produces the compact Chevrolet Chevy, as well as sport-utility vehicles Saturn Vue, Chevrolet HHR and Chevrolet Captiva Sport. "In order to maintain a balance between production and inventories, we've had to adjust once again some of our operations at our Mexican facilities," said Hector De Hoyos, director of manufacturing for General Motors de Mexico. http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/...0_FORTUNE5.htm |
I could see this coming with the many HHR's on the dealer lots.
If inventories are large I could see them carry the 09 models way into the next model year. GM has already done this on a couple Saturns and the G8. We will more plants shut down soon in the states. I would not be suprised to see Lordstown to shut down soon for a few weeks. |

I read some where unemployment in Mexico is pushing 40%.

Mexico's unemployment is so high because for all intents and purposes, it is still very much a third world country. Lack of education and illiteracy are a huge problem. Much of the country is still agrarian and there are a few industrial centers like Ramos Arizpe that make up the bulk of the industrial employment. You still have to be reasonably literate to work in an auto factory on the line, so those jobs actually wind up going to people at the top of the food chain.

Keep in mind those in the kidnapping and drug cartels also count as unemployed so the real number is not 40% but closer to 6% LOL.
As for houses in Detroit at $1 there still over priced. |
