I aint gonna lose my job, im cool !

Ive already had my hours reduced along with everyone else at nucor since last august.

 

I feel lucky to still have my (public sector) job here at the university. I have friends who are unemployed or at risk of possibly losing jobs--some with kids.

I have a background in Career Counseling (Masters level specialization) and would be happy to help anyone with resume polishing up and/or cover letters.

I lost mine. As everyone already knows, It is brutal out there...

 

For any of you young folks out there (meaning under 50 in my book) and are willing to be flexible as far as location, the wind energy market is going like gang busters and very short of workers (engineering, maintenance, administration, accounting, planning, etc). They are even willing to foot the bill for training at community colleges near the big installations. I was going to post some links, but suggest instead you expend the effort doing your own research if you are serious and motivated. I am a bit miffed (not really) at this since alternate energy was an area of my concentration in college, and there were no jobs when I graduated since oil was so cheap, now that I am ready to retire, the demand takes off (go figure, it is about frickin time!).

 

Its Tough, I do agree the General Public would be better off if we were not reminded daily. That just Make's it more nerve racking. When will we hit bottom, its anyone's guess. Things our Tough, everyone just has to do there part and those of us who are working need to Spend any extra $$ we can get by with.

I pray my finacee and I keep our jobs.

I have 7 more years until retirement and I should make it, but I see 2009 and maybe part of 2010 very bad years. I should be Ok as long as I get out of Jersey after I retire, but I feel for the younger folks and the kids coming into the job markets today.

 

I agree with the whole fear mongoring idea for the recession. Energy feeds off of energy, if everyone thinks negative and induces more fear it's just gonna spread like wildfire. I've tightened down a bit on my spending but I'm buying "wants" when I can to do my part so to speak... And just when I thought my job in power generation was recession proof we get bad news. We're owned by a foreign power company (don't ask me how it happened but it sold out to forein hands before I hired) and since their economy is doing bad they are looking to save $$$. All job cut reccomendations were turned into them two weeks ago. Luckily we're union and they would have to let the contractors go first before the lay off one union brother. Not that I want see that happen because they are some great guys and hella workers. Things are going to get worse before they get better my friends.

 

i guess you all have heard that 80,000 were laid off yesterday. i could swear that people were driving slower this mourning , maybe trying to save gas. i'm still spending. some think they should save . for what? it could get so bad that $ is worth nothing. then what you got? nothing , no matter how much money you got. crime is going to get worse also. i may even buy a gun. please help , and spend some money , if you have any.
