This 2010 LS was involved in a front collision passenger side. Dealer mentioned that they had the car rebuilt and painted, of course, I had already looked up the vehicle history report. I'm thinking the Brake, ABS, and ESC / traction lights and messages are all related to that shops front-end rebuild work.
Ride wise it seems to be running GREAT now. I've NOT been able to replicate the shift shudder since that first day. It did it all 3 trips I made that first day, 1> back to the house from dealer ~16 miles, after which I did a basic check-up - OBD check, oil check (3qts low but no sign of leaking), air filter check, tire pressure, lights, etc... 2> ~20 mile city traffic test drive and 3> ~14 mile shopping trip.
If needed, I can just swap in the Moog LCA's off my old LT. They only have about 18,000 - 20,000 miles on them.
Can't wait to swap out all the incandescent bulbs for LED's again, especially the headlights.... forgot just how much I hate the standard headlights, and how much less roadway they illuminate vs the LED's in my LT.
Looks like the brake light on the dash is legit.... I never thought to try the parking break till this morning. Tried it, went 5 clicks btw, put it in reverse, took foot off the brake, & it started rolling backwards, no drag marks on the ground so the rear wheels are rolling with the parking brake engaged. It felt like the brakes were slowing it down a bit, but not stopping it from rolling...
Fortunately, I was able to get the used car lot to bring it down from $3995 to $3200, thanks to the laundry list of things I mentioned previously, and I only used $500 of the $2100 I had available as the down payment since it couldn't get me into better payments... so I do have a bit of cash for the Chevy dealer to do some fixin... I'll do the oil change before it goes in on Monday, and I'll probably do the brakes myself again, but that somewhat depends on what the Chevy service dept comes up with for overall estimate.
Now, I'm thinking that I might eventually try to get the LT fixed if things go well at work... probably a few years away, but there's no immediate need to sell or scrap it.
Well, the LS has been at Chevy Service center for 2 days.... As of 6:28PM, status is still showing "Inspection started" although it was actually completed at 9:13AM this morning..... a fact I was not aware of until 5PM..... After calling and inquiring, I was finally sent a repair estimate. Unfortunately, due to their failure to update the status tracker, I will be riding a bicycle back & forth to work for the next 2 days.
It's not broken down here, but the price here does include labor.
I know I can do the Thermostat and Coolant, & pretty sure I can do the Right Front CV axle - found the GM Geniune one at RockAuto for $68 less then they quoted for the part. Pretty sure the mechanic shop* I usually go to can do the ABS stuff for half that price. They did both of the front CV Axle's on the LT for $278 total. Also RockAuto has the ABS Control Unit for $240 less than dealer quoted for the part...
Very interesting to note that there's no mention of brakes beyond the ABS stuff.... pretty sure it's due for new pads, which makes me wonder if they shorted the multi-point inspection. Also, brake fluid in reservoir is dark brown, not to mention the issue with the parking brake.
Mentioned on the inspection overview "oil change @ 0.0%", but also not estimated. Funny though, cause I reset it Sunday after I changed the oil & before dropping it off on Monday at the dealer.
*my regular shop is a preferred or "Network" shop for Geico, Progressive, and State Farm that I know of. When my Hyundai Accent was rear-ended, both Geico (other driver) and State Farm (my insurance at the time), gave them as a preferred shop for repairs, but also mentioned I can take it anywhere including Hyundai dealership - I just pocketed that $$$ & rode around without a rear bumper. When I called Progressive with the busted transmission housing, they also gave them as a preferred shop before the determined that I wasn't covered. They're also one of the highest rated shops in the area with 4.6 on Google with more than 1400 reviews, while the dealer shop that just gave me the quote is only rated at 4.2 with only about 800 reviews....
t-stat and coolant is outrageous (flat rate R&R labor 1.2 hours part $60, Real cost part #131-158 $30, 2 gallons pre-mixed coolant $30 ) ! .
So is a hub! I suggest doing both at the same time. You need to remove the hub to remove the axle.
Why do they claim the ABS module needs replacing?
Did you get new keys? If not, the did not do the recall.
I am surprised they didn't recommend flushing the power steering fluid, mine did.
If you cleared the oil life monitor is should be 0%.
When you reset the oil life it shows 100% then works down to 0%.
turn the ignition key to run, don’t start the engine, press the throttle pedal to the floor 3 times then remove the ignition key.
I'm in the same boat. The best Car of My Life (BCOML) sustained serious damage in a snow related accident. It breaks my heart but I think it may be time to accept that my 2008 SS has lived its useful life.
When you reset the oil life it shows 100% then works down to 0%.
turn the ignition key to run, don’t start the engine, press the throttle pedal to the floor 3 times then remove the ignition key.
What? I'll have to write that down for next time! I've always just used the engine oil reset on the dash - go to "Oil Life Remaining" on the dash display, press & hold the Info & reset buttons for 3 to 5 seconds, It will change to "acknowledged", and goes back to 100%.
After resetting and dash reading Oil Life 100%, here's what I got from the dealer:
It's also the only thing checked off in the 30+ item "Multi-Point Inspection" list....
