tough times ahead

After a 17 year marriage I'm going to be going through a divorce. Bad time of year, but there really isn't a good time for this. Had to tell the kids today. Very rough day but they are taking it well, at least so far. Big changes in store for all of us but in the long run I think we will all be better off.

Life takes us down many roads for reasons unknown. Sometimes we just have to sit back and see where it leads. Good wishes to you and your entire family.

I'd like to say I know how you feel, but I am too scared to take that path, so I am stuck in misery instead. Good luck with everything and I hope it all works out for you.

Sorry to hear but look for that silver lining in the clouds. As bad as things will get, it's there and you have to look for it. Sometimes life hands you lemons. You just gotta make lemonade with it.

Good luck and many prayers to you and your family.

Why suffer? While I don't know your personal situation, and don't think divorce is a decision that should ever be taken lightly, having NO relationship is better than living in a bad one. Been there, Done that, Have the T-shirt. After my ex and I split up, I've never looked back, and do not regret that decision one bit. In my case however, there were no kids to worry about, and no assets to fight over.

Doug, I hope everything works out for the best for you. Having kids makes these decisions that much tougher.

Here's hoping for your recovery. Long time in a relationship makes it harder to cope, but think about the best that came out of your marriage - your kids

With that said personally I've seen too many and have been in too many bad relationships, which has kept me single and scared of the consequences of a marriage potentially turning sour.

Not against the institution of marriage just scared of it

Been there, my first marriage went 14 years. Lucky for me, no kids (part of the reason for the split). Now I'm working on 12 years and a beautiful 6 y/o girl. It's hard, it's rough, it brings out the worse in most.

But it was the best decision I've ever made.

Yep, unfortunately been there done that was married 24 years. As they say time heals and it does. It's tough and never fun, you really get to see the person you married when they hire a attorney and you get served. It gets better, thats for sure. Lots of luck.
