another oil thread

Hi all,
I know there has been many discussions about regular oil vs synthetic oil and which to use in the HHR. I am currently using synthetic. I have 65,000kms on mine and was told that it would be good to start using high mileage oil now instead since I do a lot of driving everyday and would benefit the engine in the long run..yay or nay to this? Thoughts?

Stick with the one you started with, 65K is not high mileage, 165K maybe.

Did you ask why the "high mileage" was recommended? Most people flatly state, " use a "high mileage" oil", when you attain xxx amount of miles. This is an just another opinion, much like one brand of oil is better than another. And each person you talk with will state to use it at a different mileage.....again just an opinion, with NO FACT for proof.

I would suggest reading the reverse of the Mobil1 label. I think you will find, not exclusively.....but almost, that their high mileage is useful for oil consuming vehicles. Is your vehicle one of these.....then use it. Otherwise stick to what you have been using. The mileage statement and the use of special oils is a myth, as long as you maintain your vehicle properly through it's lifetime. Once it is using an unreasonable amount of oil....say a quart in 2000 miles (depending on driving habits), I would consider the other type of oils.

I used Mobil1 in cars far exceeding 150,000 miles and saw no need to change to any other oil. Many of these vehicles were sold to friends and, as such, I also witnessed more miles accumulated on the cars/trucks....some exceeding 225,000 miles.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would stick to synthetic.

I have been useing syn. oil since 1956 and now use Mobil1 and se no need to change.

The mobile 1 I use states right on the jug, for high mileage, 75,000 miles engines...... I have never had to add a drop of oil between oil changes in the past 86K miles.

I'll stick with it.

i was just told that it would be beneficial to use high mileage now to keep engine running longer as it keeps the seals in better condition or whatever they were saying...ok good to know it was "preference" :thumb:

I've been running M1 since my first oil change. At 103,000+ miles on the clock, the HHR still doesn't use any oil. I wait until 10-15% oil life on the DIC before changing the oil and have gone 8-11000 mile between oil changes. The HHR is one of the easiest cars in which to change oil.

Mobil 1, full syn. Never had a problem in the 20+ years I've been using in all my rides.
Just purchased a 2006 HHR LT 59K miles, plan on M1 at the first change.
