Changing my oil for the first time

I changed my oil myself for the first time. I watched a video on YouTube where the guy changed his oil. He used a oil pump extractor and that's what I did. I'm thinking some of you guys are already hip to this. I didn't have to jack the vehicle up to drain the oil. I just put the more narrow hose into the dip stick tube and let the wider hose end sit on the container for catching oil and turned on the extractor pump. Easy peas. I did have to pull the hose out of the dip stick tube to get more oil flow, no problem. My biggest broblem was loosening and retightening the cap for the filter. I just didn't have a tool that was an exact fit. All in all a pretty easy job! I didn't have jack the car up, I didn’t make a mess and rhe home owners assassination I mean association(lol) won't be sending me a nasty gram.

I’m not a fan of those suction devices. IF there is any debris, grit or sludge down in the bottom of the pan, those suction hoses will usually miss it. Best to pull the drain plug. That’s the lowest point and where any particles will settle.
I had a lowered SS. Never had to jack it up to change oil. Just used some homemade, low profile ramps. (A couple of short 2x8’s nailed together. )

Any parts store will have the correct (32 mm) filter wrench.

Sucking the oil out is better than nothing of course, but it’s difficult to know that you got to the low point. The sudden gush when you pull the plug helps flush any debris out (which is why it’s best to examine the bottom of your drain pan before you completely empty it.)

Once you get the hang of it, you’ll realize that pulling the plug is just as fast or faster. And, you can install a magnetic plug and check it for debris each time you change the oil.

Change it often.

Agreed.

Always drain the oil, don't use a suction device as you will always leave some dirty oil in the engine.
As for the filter cap, I use a 32mm open end wrench held vertically and turn it with a screwdriver.

"Shorty" socket is very helpful to remove oil filter cap, any auto parts stores usually have them.
