Check Engine Light = Bad Battery Cell?

I had a part store in town pull the code from my 07 HHR LT and he came back with a dead cell in my battery.
Is this possible, and if so do I need to go to a shop for a replacement?

Thank you in advance for any and all help in this matter.

Welcome to the site.:thumb:

First thing, what is the code number? When asking questions about a code problem, it's always best to include the number or numbers if multiple.

The codes I'm aware of can detect a battery voltage problem. I don't think the ECM or BCM is smart enough to narrow it down to a bad cell. The computer does not monitor each cell, so how would it know.

Have the battery and charging system tested.(not just code read) The parts store employee should have suggested this.

Let us know what you find out.

If you are suspect a bad cell, or any battery problem, take it to a battery shop and have it load tested.

Thank you for the replies, I was never given a code (never bothered to ask honestly). Next time the check engine light goes on I will ensure I have all of the information.

Kaisenn66-

I'm sure you are aware, most auto parts stores can test your entire charging system, including the battery (load tested), + test for any unusual parasitic drains, for FREE

I keep pencils / pens & paper in my ride. You get a code pulled, write it down..

Post it & you will get specific help..
