Dash light dimming can not see at the best of times

There has to be a way to bypass or disable the auto dimming of the dash lights period the rocker switch on the dash is useless for solving the problem we need answers that work we do know what all the switches and dials do but that is not doing anything to solving the problem ...... any positive help would be greatly appreciated thank you ......

Well you could either clean the contacts or replace the dimmer switch, or possibly install a toggle switch

What is the "problem" that you seek to solve?

Place your estimate pad over the light sensor, like everyone that drives a panel van does, then it will always be night.

If you are an electrical engineer type you could figure out how to bypass the sensor with a circuit to fool the computer. Probably a resistor instead of the sensor.

When I start my car the radio and information center is dim and normally in a short time (never timed it but about 30 sec) it recognizes it is daytime and they get brighter. Other times I can get almost all the way to work (30 min) before that happens. What could cause this to happen?

Weak light sensor, mine doesn't like a tunnel or shade from trees, then bright sunlight.

None of the suggestions above solve the issue. I have tried them all to no avail. My next step is to pull the instrument panel and see how I can bypass the stupid dimmer. Good thing I have a parts car to try my theories on. I'll let y'all know how it works out.

How to replace the dimmer switch

I have a similar issue with my 2008 SS. The instrument panel dimmer switch does not seem to be working. Moving it left/right does nothing, not even turning on the overhead lamp when turned full to the right. I've searched YouTube for how to replace it, but I only came up with replacing the turn signal switch. Does anyone have a link to remove the portion of the dash cover to get to the dimmer switch?

On a side note, the owner's manuals are available in PDF format on my HHR Showcase/Registry website: https://macswebs.com/hhrregistry/scr...ech/index.html

Put two fingers into the two round dash vents above the radio and gently pull the waterfall out , disconnect the switch from the wiring harness and unscrew the retaining screws to remove the switch
