Engine flush product ?
What is your thoughts on using this before changing oil ? I change my oil and filter every time it reaches about 35% oil life. I think my engine is clean.
"Simply pour it into the oil filler so it will circulate through the engine and remove deposits. Then you drain the oil, which should be full of the harmful deposits, swap out the oil filter, and add new oil. " |
Don't.
|
Sounds like snake oil. They don't even tell you how long or how many miles to run it?
|
I was watching many videos about the timing chain because I am preparing to change it next year when my HHR will be near 125k miles and here is that guy at 15:20 :
So I am just wondering. |
I’ve never used an engine flush product , put many miles on my 2007 2.2 and 2011 2.4 . Never had any issues. I do highly recommend using a quality 5W30 synthetic or synthetic blend engine oil with Dexo2 , the brand choices are up to you. And yes change the oil filter every oil change.
I recommend changing the chains as a preventative measure at 100,000 to 125,000 miles. Better to change the chains then the valves or possibly the entire engine. |
They don't add paraffins to motor oil anymore. The filter remove dust sized particulates. Changing the oil regularly "flushes" the engine. Gasoline is a lot better now than in days of yore.
What might be the cause of sludge in a modern engine? Most of those "motor flush" and "injector cleaner" products are just diesel fuel. I am amused by the bottles that exclaim "with jet fuel"; that is cleaned up kerosene. Jet engines can burn just about anything that is flammable. |
The guy in that video is not trustworthy. Engine flush is a waste and in very dirty engines will ruin them.
Timing chains are not a maintenance item. No need to mess with it unless it's having problems. |
So you don’t think changing the chain should be a preventative maintenance item.
You would rather wait until the engine is damaged, then deal with it? I’m old school, check and inspect at certain intervals. In this case 100,000 to 150,000 miles https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...45e8befbd.jpeg This was an eBay chain stretched out at 20,000 miles, CEL tipped me off Code P0014 and P0016 |
"Inspecting" is a maintenance item. Regular replacement is not.
Some last forever, some don't last at all. No need to assume failure. |
A member here did a prophylactic chain job. The front guide shattered shortly thereafter.
The life of the chain system is not as predictable as we’d like to think. I don’t think it is entirely clear that there is much benefit in a chain job when there are no symptoms. |
