These engines will tell you if you are having issues with the timing. Short of a catastrophic failure there's no need to do an inspection. That's a lot of work for nothing.
Well I take care of my HHR like she is a superstar. She looks like one also. I never drive with the RPM hitting above 3. If my timing chain can last forever I would be more than happy, of course.
The guy in that video is not trustworthy. Engine flush is a waste and in very dirty engines will ruin them..
Same thought. Nicely done video that’s full of s#!+. At 11:45 he says to activate the timing tensioner before installing??!!! What the HE double hockey stick? Unless, there’s something I don’t understand, that’s great way to overload everything and have the whole thing blow up in short order.

I no longer look at the oil change percentage reminder. I write it down and use a magnet on my tool box lid. About a year ago I was toggling thru the the DIC and saw 45% remaining. Checked my note on the tool box and it was at 4600 miles. Changed the oil that afternoon. I now use the odometer trip #2 as the oil change reminder. Sort of a double reminder. 211K and I use NAPA full synthetic and a wix filter. ( Napa oil is Valvoline oil) The 2.2 engine does not use any oil between changes, but I still check it once a month. Engine flush? Years ago I did it. 301 Pontiac engine.( 1979 Tran Am) I used the old method, automatic trans fluid. Added 1 quart to the engine and drove it. Then changed the oil. Seems like way more than 6 quarts came out and it was filthy crudy oil. The lifters ticked all of a sudden. More than likely plugged the oil filter. Dumb idea. Never again. This was back in the mid 90's. The engine spun a rod bearing soon after that. Replaced the engine with a Chevy 400 and still own that car today.
