I have been putting k&n filters on my cars and trucks for about 20 years now, They will work just fine as long as you don't over oil them. If you over oil it, Then it will cause alot of problems. K&N says they need to be cleaned every 50,000 to 100,000 miles, If you need to clean the k&n filter or recharge it just make sure to not over oil the filter.

At the motorcycle shop I worked at we found out a dirty K&N filter has a better pull than a brand new one

That's kinda what K&N says in their own literature! Sounds strange but it may true . There must be a point where that isn't the case though. I've used their air filters on my last 4 or 5 vehicles and never had any problems. I usually clean them at about 25,000 Mi. just to play it safe. Even that may be too often??

Just a "heads up" for those taking the a/f housing off.... Be very careful pulling it off!! The grommets can tear!!

A couple of months ago I had my HHR at the dealer for the A/C noise fix (hoses replaced) and when I got home to take a look, the a/f was not tight. Upon closer inspection I found one of the rear and the front grommet were torn.

Called the dealer and they said they'd order new grommets. Good ol' GM, however, does not sell the grommets seperately!! The dealer grumbled that they had to order both halves of the filter box. We both thought that was a bunch of crap. I suggested to the Svc. Mgr. that he make it a warranty claim and put the bill on GM's lap.
