Manual Rear Brake Adjustment Info ....
 

Well today I took my HHR in for another Oil Change and Filter but as I was waiting I thought to myself my parking brake lever is not where it should be.
I just don't feel like crawling around under the car with Fall Cold rain and wind in the air.
I think I will just let my GM dealer do it this time while I'm here.
Of course they quized me as to why I wanted the rear brakes manually adjusted .. so I told them my reason... They said What:loco:

I finally told them ...JUST DO IT !!

So here I am waiting in the lounge and in comes the Tech with a puzzled look on his face. He says sir your rear brake adjustment is right on the money to Chevrolet specs .. We have pulled the drums, cleaned it up, and checked all the parts. It all looks perfect. What else do you want us to do?
I thought for a bit and said ... Is there any adjustment in the hand brake cable ?????
He said I think there might be but let me check for you.
I said ... also get in the car and pull the hand brake lever and tell me how many clicks you get ...
He did, and came back to tell me he got 6 clicks and there Is an adjustment point..
I said adjust till you only get 3 clicks.
He did and I'm glad I had them do it this time.
I said thanks for following "My Specs".
He said I see why you like it that way .. Good move.

The point here is, there may be more to adjusting the rear brakes then some think or know about.
Thats why I am posting this Tid Bit.
There is another reason .. It positions the brake handle to where it is the most convenient, and gives you a "BASE POSITION" to know where your rear brakes are at any given time.

Now I'm happy with my system.....

I'd say about any ride with cable drawn E-Brakes has to have an adjustment point. Cables can stretch over time..

Thats right and I think the Tech learned something in this process.
Especially when I told him the rear auto adjusters were crap.

I back out of garage and driveway a least once a day and I hit the brakes firm so they will activate the adjusters but they just do not work properly.
All 6 HHR's I have owned have the same problem.
