Or not longer than 1 year without an oil & filter change..
To the OP: the HHR is about the easiest ride to change oil on.. For the oil filter, you may want to pick up a 32mm shorty socket at local auto parts stores. Just get the store brand socket, it's cheap.. Then use a 3/8" drive rachet & 5" extension.. |

I plan on using 5w30 Royal Purple HPS (High Performance Street) Oil the next time I change mine.

What exactly is your question?

Gonna sound like a dumb question but cut me some slack...PLEASE. It is just about time to have or change the oil in the 2.2 it has 8,000 plus on this oil so I am sure it is a synthetic (I am a conventional man 40 plus years) oil. My question what is recommended ? The sticker on the winshield is from Firestone and was not a local vehicle when I purchased it. I have done my own for years but not opposed to a PRO doing it. I would appreciate any help I can get.

5W-30, GM Standard GM6094M.
As stated, it's an easy oil change. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/maintenance-upkeep-50/how-change-your-own-oil-10546/ |

That's what the manual says, 5W-30 and GM Standard GM6094M. You can use an oil that exceedes that standard and if you want to use a different weight, that's your call. I believe it even says 5W-30 on the oil cap. (unless I'm thinking of the GTO...)

Question..why use expensive oil on a stock vehicle thats a daily driver? And then change it short? Just about any oil out there will accomplish the same thing, with the same milage. The days of the gummy eng are pretty much over with todays oils and theres little benefit to be gained. Yeah, cheap insurance and all that..but insurance from what? Somebody show me a stock engine thats failed because of using stock type recommended oil..humor me..just one, that has failed due to the oil..your just lining the pockets of the manufacturer...its like spending 20$ on a hamburger that can be had for 5$ somewhere else....its still hamburger...lol ! NOT to be confused with those people who run modified motors and or have high performance vehicles where these types of are required..a modded engine is a sort of investment and all means applied to protect it..but a stock DD..I dont get it.....just sayin
