Oil
Milage is not the only factor for me to consider when changing oil. I almost always also plan for an oil change in October, which usually carries me thru the winter cause I'm no longer tolerant of laying on a cold garage floor with slush dripping in my face.
I'm new to this site and the whole HHR addiction. Been reading all I can about em, and mine has the computer thing built in that tells me everything I'd ever want to know about it. It's Amazin...I tell ya..
When I started drivin your oil came in Cardboard cans (24 to a case) .45 a qt.. Or you could buy it at the gas station when ya filled up, cause they'd check it for ya & wash the windshield. They had it in glass qt. jars with metal spouts and it was whatever gas they sold, that's what brand oil it was...usually, sorta.
Now if ya were a farmer, trucker or had equipment you'd get it in metal 5 gal. refillable buckets or drums. Most all oil was 30w or 40w for summer. Then the multi-grades came out...Hot Diggity...same oil year round. Of course ya had to adjust the valves by hand in them days, so when you'd take the valve covers off...if you could still see the rocker arms...ya knew it would only be a half day job till ya got things cleaned up, adjusted and closed up. Oil back then was slippery as all get out, but it didn't clean anything...especially the insides of hot motors. I'd already pulled the drain plug on an oil pan and nothin came out....had to run a coat hanger in there to break the sludge up to where what liquid oil was in there, would drain out.
Now I'm drivin a car that tells me how many miles I'm gettin to a gal of gas, when my oil needs to be changed, how much life is left in that oil, air in all 4 of my tires, the temperature outside, gets it's music from a satelite and calls the cops if I get in a wreck.
If you'd a told me any of this stuff would be standard equipment on a car back in the 50's....I'd a swore you were crazy.
Technology is an amazing thing...don't take it for granted...appreciate it..

My 2 cents. I use Mobile 1 Full synthetic in my motorcycles and cars. Why pay the extra cost? I do because Full synthetic oil holds up better to heat, Better thermal break down, leaves a coating on the engine wallls a tad longer protecting the motor a tad better, the synthetic oil also has less carbon build up, so to me the added protection in worth the extra cost, you pay 15/25k$ for a car or MC IMO it worth the extra few $.. BUT changing oil on regular is going to help no matter what type you use!
