Oil spec changed for all gm 2011's

gooday to all, just got a price increase shock when i took our 2011 hhr in for its first oil change at7000 kms and the gm service advisor notified me i could not use their $29.95 lube special anymore as GM mandated all 2011 GM products are now using DEXOS 1 for a $54.95 service,as i had previously owned a 2009 hhr i didn't know or think there had been a change, plus it was pointed out that there was a posted gm bulletin in the customer lounge. fortunately i don't visit there to often or i would have been aware. no excuses i should have read my 2011 manual more closely. anyway my question is can i use MOBIL 1 SYNTHEDIC in place of the GM DEXOS 1?
any help in this matter will be greatly appeciated

Mobil 1 (and a few others) are approved. See the link below.

Here's a link from GMTech, and Mobil 1 is an acceptable substitute for DEXOS 1.

Though I do use Mobil 1 on our 2006 as a matter of choice I thought full synthetic was only required on the SS models. Did that change somewhere along the line?

Never mind. After looking it up, I see that it changed with the 2011 models. (Which is what the OP said.)

I'm using Pennzoil Platinum in my '07....... it was one of the earliest approved Dexos1 oils. (Which means they paid GM first..... Nevermind) Anyways, yes a change with the 2011 model year.

HHR is one of the easiest oil change cars out there, eventually you may want to look into doing it yourself. (just don't come to the forum and ask "When should I change the oil?"... then it get's more difficult) :skull:

Nah, Exxon/Mobil paid GM before that. To the point that the oil cap on my 2005 GTO actually says 'Mobil 1 SAE 5-30' on it.

I had a 2008 Trailblazer SS. with a variation of
the Corvette LS2 motor. Oil Change for it cost
around $72.xx and change. :fixcar: So i am gonna
save. . . alittle now with the HHR. ~

But they had to pay again to use the new DEXOS1 logo...... See how this stuff works. ;)
