Oil type

I just bought an 08 hhr panel and I'm due for oil change but not sure what type of oil was used in it. Will it hurt anything if I switch from synthetic to regular or vice versa and what weight is recommended

Welcome
Guess you didn't get an Owners Manual with the car ? Here's a link to download a copy of the manual. All the pertinent info is in the Owners Manual.

Jeez!!! Lots of new owners, mist have been a new batch released.
Switching back ^ forth Dino and Syn is fine. Don't use ":high mileage". Use any brand labelled "Dexos" 5W30, which is most semi-Syn an Syn products. Your choice "Dexos" is the important part. (just like the label on the oil fill cap says)

Oil change intervals are calculated by the computer, about every 12,000 miles.

There is a link in my sig for a FREE digital Owner Manual.

You can look to make sure on the oil cap lid but Dexos started in 2011.
I remember when I took my New 2011 to the dealer for the first oil change and they charged me an extra $5.00.
When I asked why they said ... because they had to use the new Dexos Oil in the new models for 2011 warranty purposes..
I don't see any reason not to use it but " just saying"

Welcome- Well just drain the wrong Oil out, & start over with correct oil.

Remember what Don stated, to avoid any Hi-Mileage type oils.

They have stuff in them that swells seals, when you stop using tls shrink and leak.

That leaves out the part about zinc and other heavy metals that kill catalytic converters.
