Try www.gmdirect.com they have just about everything for your car. And they help protect your paint from road pebbles that get kicked up from the front tires. Or add running boards.

My 2LT came without the clear shields, but did come with running boards. I added the factory mud flaps as well. If you run without that shield your paint will be damaged as Tracy mentioned. :skull:

If you don't want to buy from a GM dealership, and thus pay more, you can also try auto paint supply houses (they supply the trade). I had previously purchased some for a truck. It comes in rolls and is sold by the "running" foot.

Can't remember for sure, but it was either 5mil or 7 mil. 3M is one of the manufacturers. Oh and you can also buy on line.

My SS came new without the plastic shields.Do non SS's all come with this?

Greybeard999 09-23-2011 09:54 PM

Not if it comes with running boards, mine didn't have it and I have a 2LT. At least in '07.... Earlier ones got a molded shield instead of the plastic film.

The plastic film seemed to start about 1/3 of the way into the 2007 model year. I've seen one early production '07 with the plastic shields, the rest have the 3-M film on the fender/read doors. This only apples to "boardless" units of course.

My 07 didnt not come with film on it and no running boards. Just the cheesy plastic shin guard looking crap.

Yes they changed in late 07 to the film from the plastic guards.

Yes only the non SS and HHRs with no running boards get the clear film.

The dealer film is pre cut for the shape and is not all that expensive.

To put it on you want to put some soapy water in a spray bottle and spray it on the car and the sticky side of the film. Apply it and then squeegy out the bubbles and let sit for about a half hour. The soap will let you work out the air and reposition the film if needed.

Then you can pull the top cover off that helps line up the film on the quarter.

I out them on my SS as even with the rockers you can and will still get chips with the fender that far out.

The earlier fender guards are discontinued and some colors are no longer avail .

If I remember correctly, late 40's-early 50's Chevrolets often had fender guards in the same location. A neighbor had some on his '48 Fleetline, I think, but my Grandfather's '52 did not. It's been along time, but I remember them as a black rubber compound. Neighbor did not like wax on them, I found out. When I was blacking out my grille and bowtie, I contemplated that look for my fenders as well. Wasn't willing to try because of possible irreversability!
