Sunroof Lubrication.
I was wondering if there is any sunroof track lubrication required? Is there any brand out there that is really good to use? I've read stories on here where the sunroof locks up or won't close / open properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

im not sure about the tracks but for the rubber seal, i think anything with a bit of oil in it is good, the seal for my sunroof was sticking and i sprayed some pam on it and has been great

Just my opinion I don't think I would use PB Blaster (stinky ) I would use some sort of silicon spray.

For around the rubber seal would Armor All or any type of detailer be okay?

i would use a silicon grease, you dont want to use anything that can eat away at the rubber

The lube the roof you need to lube the tracks in the roof. DO NOT USE OIL OR SILICON GREASE.
Oil attracts dirt and can make things worse as time goes on. Even light oil can make for more trouble later. Silicon grease is not as bad in small amounts but it too can hold dirt and when it gets cold it can bind up the roof. THe best thing to use is a light silicon spray on the tracks. As for the weather seal just use 303 protectant or the silicon t top seal protectant. Mid America has it. Also silicon grease will also work on the seals in light very light applictions. A little goes a long way. For the most part once a year or once in the spring and fall is all it needs. ALso check your drains to make sure they are clear if you park near trees etc. |
From your owners manual:
Dirt and debris may collect on the sunroof seal or in the tracks that could cause an issue with sunroof operation, noise or plug the water drainage system. Periodically open the sunroof and remove any obstacles or loose debris. Wipe the sunroof seal and roof sealing area using a clean cloth, mild soap, and water. Do not remove grease from sunroof. |
Thanks guys, I didn't even think of checking the owners manuel. Thanks Chevymgr.

I've used a little bit of white lithium grease in the tracks of sunroofs on several cars. I've never had an issue with it.
