Want to swap my catalytic converter
Want to swap my catalytic converter
My cat makes rattle type noise when i turn off my ride. I would like to replace it along with my exhaust system. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy catalytic converter or which one to get? The help would be greatly appreciated.

Before I would change it I would get under the HHR and check the heat shield. They are tin covers and spot welded in place,, The spot welds break or rust and they will rattle! How many mile on your HHR? The Cat . usually hold up well. and may be covered under extended emission warranty, I believe that's what it is called! The gear heads should pop in and let you know for sure
Check E-Bay, GMPartsoutlet.net, RockAuto.com or anyone of the hundreds of auto parts places online. The cat pipe is now available from most after market suppliers, shop-shop-shop though because the prices vary wildly.
I to would check on the heat shields. I have torn them off of many people's cars with no ill effects. some people have even come to me complaining about transmission problems, but once I removed the shields all the problems mysteriously disappeared. LOL!!
If you do need to change it, check EBay. I just replaced mine (it failed) and got one for $137 shipped. You just need to see if you need one with with or without the upstream O2 in the pipe. Pretty easy to change also.
Just went through that rattle with my 2007 a month ago or so. It started as a minor rattle when I shut it off, then progressed to a rattle at idle, worse if the AC was on. Turned out to be the catalytic converter falling apart internally, and the 8/80 federal emmisions warrantee covered the converter and flex pipe replacement 100%. I'm guessing there may have been a slight leak in the flex pipe, as it runs much quieter now, than it has in a long time.
