Where to lift,or position jack pad?

There is a cross member, just in front of the two front wheels. It is rounded off a bit,but quite wide and looks fairly substantial. Is that a good member to jack up the front of the car?

No , not a good idea, the round front cross member is not a great lifting point. If the car should move and slip off the jack the radiator and AC condenser are usually the damaged parts!

The jack points are shown in the Owner Manual.

The threshold of the car has something like a ridge at the bottom.
If you run your finger along the end face just behind the front wheel (or in front of the rear wheel), you will feel two notches. Something like grooves or slots 2 to 3 inches apart. These indentations are marks. Place for a jack attachment between them. This is if you use a standard manual jack from the trunk.

When I use a trolley hydraulic jack, I attach it to where the rear of the subframe is bolted to the body. Of course, there must be a thick rubber band between the working part of the jack and the body. A lot of guys use a hockey puck. I am using a piece of an old tire.

Or, you could notice the triangles pointing down on the rocker panels. And then wonder why they would bother molding those in. And then go to the Owner Manual for an explanation.

I use the rounded front bar for lifting every service. Yes with caution, but only high enough to drain oil. I don't lift the wheels off the ground from there..

And always using 3 ton jack stands under it first..

I use it all the time, but I do put jack stands under the front on each side immediately.
Never ever even reach under a car without stands.
