Windshield wipers

On a trip over the weekend during the snow storm in the Midwest the driver's side wiper stopped conforming to the windshield and the end stuck out in the air. It did not clean the windshield.

Over time this stopped and now the wiper is OK.

I have had this happen with other cars and I would like to know if anyone knows how to speed the process of returning it to normal. I clear the blade by hand routinely, but how do I fix this? Hairdryer?

Also, are winter windshield wipers worth it?

As a comment, I love it when the temps get close to freezing and the message ICE POSSIBLE comes on. Gee, ya think?

Thanks

Had something like this happen after I did a car wash then drove out into minus 20C weather. I thought I had wiped dry all critical parts until I needed to use the windshield wipers.

The only solution was to pull off the highway and hold my hand on the joints that are supposed to flex until they were thawed.

Might want to lube the joints with some silicone spray. It helps up here in the real DEEP Freeze.

ive never used winter wipers before, but it seems like the 'covering' around the joints might prevent moisture from getting in there and freezing

so they might work

i just hate the way they look, and will suffer through manually cleaning my wipers in the winter

i usually just snap them onto the windshield and the joints loosen up and they work fine

I was going to buy a set of winter blades for my car but settled on the "frameless" type. They work great! No more ice streaks across the windshield where the rubber isn't touching. I've had them for about three weeks now and have not had a single instance of the glass not being wiped.

Personally, I like the type of blades that come on the HHR over winter blades. They're like the same thing almost.

Solution to your problem...heated garage!
