08 SS Muffler

So I like the sound of my SS when you are standing right behind it, but it's almost a little too quiet considering the out put. I was thinking of putting a Flowmaster 44 on it, as people seem to think those sound pretty nice.

I saw someone mention that the stock exhaust pipe is 2.5", but the flowmaster site lists a 2.25", part number 942448. Are they spec'ing that way to allow the new muffler to slide inside the old pipe or something?

Never done a muffler before, so I'm not familiar with common practices. It seems like it'd be a good idea to slide inside the old pipe, and then muffler clamp everything together. I don't have 220v in my new garage, so no welding :( Plus I like the idea of not removing the whole pipe just to put a new muffler on.

Oh, I'm looking at this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLOWMASTER-S...ht_4322wt_1049

It's the offroad version of the normal 942448. Appears to be the same, just with a 14ga diamond plate body rather than a 16ga smooth. For $50 it can't be beat.

I like the price.....That's a good questions regarding size. I'm going to be looking at a Magna Flow soon.

I don't think I would install it by sliding the muffler into the exhaust pipe. I think it will leak. Usually exhaust components are slipped 'over' the preceding component. This helps lower the leak possibiity. Gas traveling to the back of the car is under some pressure and if the muffler is over the pipe and not into the pipe it will be less likely to leak. You could possible have the intake of the muffler swedged at a shop so it fit on(over) your pipe.

I was thinking the same thing. Why I was surprised to see Flowmaster spec a 2.25" muffler.
