muffler delete

Just wondering that age old hot rod question , I,ve seen the cat back systems and stainless muffler ads for the aftermarket, none seem to be what I am lookig for. Have any of you simply cut out the muffler and replaced with 1 3/4 or 2 inch pipe straight out the back under the bumper , I 'm considering a turn down at the tip and I was just wondering if ayd issues arose for anybody who may have done this?

Do you have an SS with the turbo? They sound really good without the muffler. Any other HHR will not sound good at all in my opinion, very loud, high pitched and raspy, enough to attract the cops. Its not at all like doing a straight pipe on a v8 unfortunately.

I just threw together what I could find, sounds like a magna flow only stereo. I would replace the resonator with a muffler, then run back to the tips.:D

Someone had done this a while back on an LT/LS and posted a video.... It didn't sound as bad as I thought it would (although videos can be deceiving because you don't know the sound gear doing the recording) When he did this he kept the stock resonator so that may have helped tone down the raspy sounds. I looked but didn't find the post, so I can't give you a link to the video.

Other than being louder, I doubt there's much you would see by doing this though with a non-SS HHR.

I have a non turbo, 2.2 litre, was thinking of a muffler to replace the resonater and straight pipe after that, guess I'll have to experiment with a few thinks at the shop!! Thanks for the tips!!
