There have been a few previous threads on this.
Do a Search on this and you should be able to find all the answers.
(yes, you need all the brackets and hardware from the donor car)

This is a mod I'd like to do too. I did a search but didn't find anything recent. Are these still available from the dealer new?

Why would you discount step by step instructions that are not "recent"?

I charge to do searches. But, here's a freeby: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...iewpoint-5750/
I found by typing "installing running boards" into the SEARCH box. This was the 7th result it did not even require scrolling.

My main question was whether they are still available from the dealer as of now.

You would have to contact your Chevy dealer or search Ebay

I keyed HHR running boards into a search window and got over 1100 possible hits, I checked with the GMpartsdirect site they have complete sets for about $500.00 in primer ready to color match includes all the brackets and all

I bought both my running boards from eBay for $250.00 a couple of years ago but had to repaint them. Changing them out was easy using the link Don Brewer supplied. Not a hard job anyway.
