Exterior door handle removal

I did a search and googled this and it only brings up the one thread on this forum and it never really says how other than they just pulled on it after removing the block.
I removed the block no problem, but the handle has the notch around a lever that looks plastic too and just pulling on it seems like it will break something.

so does it slide forward or back or what am I missing about this? dont want to damage old one or anything in the door doing this.

any help would be appreciated

handle removal

Door handles... remove the plastic plug on the door edge, look inside using a flashlight and remove the one screw using a Torx driver. Pull the handle out and slide the smaller piece towards the center slightly. Pull the smaller piece out towards you, then slide the bigger piece towards the center, didn't take a lot of force, but kinda popped, then pull it out towards you. Really very easy, I used a small magnet on the end of the Torx to keep from dropping the screw inside the door.
I just did this ...
