Replacing mirror caps...
Difficult? Can you DIY?
Reason asking is I'm coming up on 36K and I'm fairly certain the whistling, howling whatever noise you want to call it is coming from the mirrors...now I have a wind deflector and the window vents as well as lower billet grill on my HHR..dealers being who they are will automatically without a doubt say that is causing the noise..I am NOT going to take all that stuff off just so it will make the same noise as it always has...I will mention the mirror caps but I don't like my chances of them even giveing 2 seconds to diagnosing anything other than saying it is all the wind deflector crap on your car (it is not) So in anticipation of them not doing a thing, I'm wondering how difficult of a DIY is this? I see were others have swapped out the caps so I can't imagine it being too involved Goose |

It's easy enough. Just look at the pics below and see the four clips on the inside of the caps...and look at the backside of the mirror which has the caps removed and see the corresponding clip slots.
1.) Tilt the mirror all the way up/down or sideways in order to get to each of the attaching clips. The clips are behind the glass and are integral to the caps. 2.) Locate the clips with a flashlight. 3.) Use a screwdriver to gently press the clips out of their retaining slots. Nope....
I think they also look terrible on the Mini's UNLESS the car is REALLY "dressed" for auto X. But on a personal all white HHR....hmmmm Your car, do as you wish....but you did ask !!! You could easily do that paint detail yourself, on a set of standard black caps. |
