3rd row

so toying with the options here. Has anyone ever done a 3rd row for the HHR? or even a single aux seat.

You would have no head or leg room.

SwaintaN May 8, 2013 07:57 AM

i dont mean forward facing or rear facing seat. just aux side facing seat. more so for a kid, not an adult.

You still wouldn't have any room. Plus you would need seatbelt(s) and how would you get that rated to safety standards?

the seat belt figuration i have figured out. i added a 3rd row to the explorer. so i figured id do the seat belts the way way.

top part of the chest belt, towered bolted.
bottom of the lap belt, floor bolted.
click in, seat bolted.

Just understand that in the event of an accident, you would be legally liable for any injuries suffered by a third row passenger, and any others in the vehicle injured due to the modifications.

Plus, your vehicle may fail Ohio safety inspections due to non-certified seating modifications.

i know i had to take the Explorer in and have it certified by local State department of inspection. I ordered seat from one of them sites that have Seats certified by the United States safety blablabla.

For the explorer, the bracket they wanted welded instead of just bolted. so i had to bring it home, weld brackets in, create a new bracket etc.

i just didnt know if anyone had done this or not.

A later model Explorer (2002 and newer) is engineered from the factory for a third seat, so it's not a big deal. A HHR was never even considered for a third seat. In my opinion, if you need additional seating, get a bigger vehicle.

we have the 8 seater 93 explorer and her van, it was just something i was toying with for trips like to the park etc, local trips cause it gets better mpg then the van.

I remember the days taking the '65 Belaire wagon to the Amusement park.
Me and my cousins all on the floor in the back. The adults in the seats.

My the insanity
