But has anyone attempted to install a heated steering wheel from a later model GM in their ride? Kinda like a family member's Jeep with the heated wheel on cold mornings.. on my base LS might be asking a bit much...

The main problem is finding a clockspring that fits with extra conductors.

There are heated covers available, so it can be done.

Yeah. The GM trucks that have heated wheels also have the clocksprings with the extra conductors. Been cruising through some of their forums during some down time here in the office.. but I don't know that if anything would readily swap without actually springing for the parts and trying. The main thing holding me from doing that is that the trucks that have them are high trim levels - and I don't want all those extra buttons cluttering up the wheel :-)

Yeah, not the same. Covers have to come off when you start the drive (or the cord gets tangled)...

Well .... I see you have not reached a time in life yet where you try to get what you want but keeping things as simple as possible.
I use to be more like you but my body finally trained me to Keep it Simple Stupid.
Occasionally looking in my wallet helped as well.

Good luck......

Let's just say I don't like to leave things stock. I'm old enough to know better... at least by wife tells me that all the time. This is a mod that is probably too complex to undertake, but it's fun for me to do the research.

I don't have access to GM parts books, but check the Saab parts. They sold a lot of heated steering wheels here, and they weren't trucks. HHR SS owes it's manual trans to Saab, as an example. If anything would fit, it would be a Saab 9-3 clockspring.

I can appreciate the mod itch. I did crap like this on my earlier cars, mostly for performance reasons, but it is way fun to figure out, nonetheless. Try Saab stuff, maybe you can get one from salvage, even...
