Rear view mirror down grade
 

I have an 08 with the onstar, self dimming and compass rear view mirror. Many of you know how small and dim the map lights are and they can't be changed.

I went to a wrecker today and got a mirror from a different year that has the much larger lights but no other accessories built in.

I would prefer more light than whissels and bells so would like to swap them. the mirror without the accessories has a single plug with 3 wires as apposed to the 08 with a much larger plug with 8 wires.

Is it possible to do this swap and redo the wiring so the lights work and not cause any faults or codes?

Yes, did you get the 3 pin harness from the older model year?

Older mirror has 3 wires Blue with white stripe, grey, and black

Yes I did get the 3 pin harness, got about 10 inches of wire.

Some of the wires are live , so disconnect the negative terminal at the battery. Then you the splice the 3 wire connector , into the 3 wires matching colours and then tuck the other up over the head liner
