Plasti-dipped the accents!

Went ahead and have it a shot, even though I am and always have been a terrible spray painter. Also, not very good at masking off properly, as I got it everywhere. After doing the first mirror, i saw i got it everywhere anyway so I decided to not bother taping off the beauty bar, just to see what would happen. It worked out regardless.

Your beauty bar now matches your rear windshield wiper:lol:

Car looks good but not crazy about the grill. Maybe black enamel or black chrome.

But if you like it, that's what counts.:thumb:

As a temporary try out sort of a deal its OK, as a permanent mod, its....ummmm....not so good.

As Snoopy said, black enamel or black chrome would look so much better.

Here is my ultimate reasoning.

I am slowly collecting parts for a "restore" of my car. I know its only an 07, but I am very meticulous and use ONLY gm parts, and I want it put back up to brand new eventually, so I can have it for as long as I am able to drive.

When I got the car I HATED the 'brushed' parts, but I also hate chrome more. So the brushed had to go eventually, and eventually it will for good.

I've also seen a black HHR, with black chrome accents and wheels (whether it came factory like that or he added all the stuff I don't know), and I hated that too.

In the long run, I will be painting everything body color black, even the wheels, but it is so far down the line, and I wanted something temporary to rid my car of the brushed pieces. This is easy, quick, and something I can remove if I ever change my mind. Enamel would never had turned out as great as an actual paint job will, especially because I am a terrible painter.

This look isn't my favorite, but like I said, I always hated that brushed stuff so much, I needed a change. Until the time comes, I will slowly be collecting parts for a major overhaul/restore/disc conversion/brembo conversion/interior restore.

This further makes me wish to have some dupli-color tint spray done on my chrome..

The plasti dip is not going to stay unless you clear coat it. I did my handles on Wednesday one week ago and it's already coming off. The mirror caps have held up along with my stripes, but I'm tired of the stripes so they are coming off. As most have said...even myself in other threads...plasti dip is great for trial and error painting.

843de 05-29-2012 09:16 PM

As an experiment its great, just too bad they don't make a gloss Plasti-Dip, and now that I've gone and said that....someone will say "wait a minute you dingbat Moderator, they do make a gloss Plasti-Dip".:D

Ummm...they don't make a gloss Plasti-Dip do they?

1970judge 05-29-2012 09:22 PM

The edge is peeling off the handles, which I expected, there isn't a seam. However, I have a plan for that, so no worries.

Yes, it is a trial, I personally don't care for how light it is, but like I said it works for now. At least long enough to buy some black handles/caps/beauty bar/paint the grill.

Thanks for this, judge. I've been not so seriously considering having my chrome painted flat black instead of BGM... now that I've seen this, BGM it is.

Has anyone considered the spray on bed liners. I did the chrome grill, and fenders on our hummer, came out pretty nice. I hate :smile:the hummer, so we only use it for going offroad and mudding. The mud up here can be pretty acidic and between the trails and the carwash, it tends to turn to concrete by the time I get there. Like I said I hate the hummer, so I don't care about scratches. I'm tempted to do the rest of the truck, as the grill and fenders still look great, after some hard core scrubbing. The texture is orange peel, so its not for everyone.... And yes, that is a new tire on back. I cut the hell out of one coming back out onto the road, ya gotta pay to play
