08 Auto Shifter Cover Plastic Strip
08 Auto Shifter Cover Plastic Strip
I have a 2008 automatic. This past winter on a cold day when I put the car in gear the plastic strip that moves with the shifter broke. Now I can see down to the bare metal. Has anyone found a replacement for this either original or other ? I do not want to replace the entire shifter as I see many doing although the 09 does look nicer with the leather I was hoping for quick easy fix for what seems to be a few dollar part.
The below picture is from a different car but to get my point across it would be part number 7.

I haven't seen anyone making that specific replacement part.
Your best bet is to probably to hit up an auto wreckers, or just make a replacement yourself using some black plastic from perhaps an old quart sized plastic oil container (using the old one as a template).

I helped a co-worker replace one of those in a 4 Runner. PITA !
That little plastic piece was available from Toyota. $36 for that little piece of plastic.
Maybe you could get a used shifter assembly for a good price. Either swap the whole shifter or just that little part.
