2006 Chevy HHR Transmission wont shift into overdrive

The automatic tranny wont shift into overdrive, it shifts hard from 1st and 2nd, what could be the problem it shifts into overdrive sometimes, sometimes it does not, any ideas guy any help will be appreciated..;2.2liter engine, there is only 104,000 miles never got the tranny flushed the check engine light is on and came on when the problem started, but no code readers are able to give off a code or clear it, I had the tranny fluid checked they said it was good and the color was fine..there is only a check engine light, it gave me trouble a month ago same kinda but next day it was fine for a month now last week it started doing it again

It would greatly help if you gave more history info for the vehicle....such as, mileage, when was the last the trans. fluid was changed, any trouble codes, have you performed any type of analysis to determine any faults, etc.

Otherwise, you will get many guesses that may not apply.

and to add to the list: clarify if the Check Engine Light (as per Snoopys reference to trouble codes), or the Traction Control light come on or not.

Need to go to AAMCO or some other trans. shop to get the TCM read.

Well, without the code, anything offered here would be a guess. The code reader used has to be CAN-compatible, and most autoparts stores would be able to download the code for you, using a compatible unit.

Here is one guess (and it is only that - a guess) - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/camshaft-position-actuator-solenoid-valve-replacement-w-pics-p0010-11-p0013-14-a-28779/

Without that code, you can spend some serious $'s replacing parts over time, and still not resolve the problem.

If they could not read anything from the OBDII port, check your cig lighter fuse.

Sounds like we are going to have one of those "compounding" problem threads.

So, to get to repairing issues.....does the code reader activate at all? You have 2 suggestions in regard to that. Is either the reason why you were unable to obtain the fault code or clear the check engine light???

Code reader did not activate at all, one did at jiffy lube but he said it was some kinda sensor to do with changing the oil and he cleared it but other then that all other places code workers don't work

as donbrew said - check your cig lighter fuse (it also powers the OBDII port).
