2006 HHR 2.2 question
This may be looked upon as a dumb question, so please forgive me if it is.....
That said: Had a problem with the crankshaft position sensor. Changed it. Had a problem with the fuel pump. Changed it. Had a problem with the ignition control module. HAD it changed. Now, suddenly, the computer is showing a problem with the anti-theft system suddenly not reading either key and the car wont turn over. All of this happened within a week. Ok, now to the possibly stupid question: If the ICM was changed and the mechanic never unhooked the battery to do it, is it at all possible that the computer can't read the keys because it was never reset after the last repair? Also, what are the hazards of not unhooking the battery before doing a repair on this car? edit: car is still at the mechanics shop... |

Changed the CPS because I thought it was going out . It usually took more than a few seconds to start and the starter was new. That might have been a mistake because it was found that the fuel pump wasn't coming on, but I had no idea of the signs that it was going bad (that was 20/20 hindsight). I can now hear the fuel pump kick in when I turn the key. The mechanic coded the car and it said the ICM was bad. After that was changed, suddenly the keys couldn't be read and I was shown two codes:
B3055 No Transponder Modulation or No Transponder B3060 Unprogrammed Transponder Identification Code Received. The reason I ask the question is because I'm having some trust issues with this mechanic. I started to get the feeling that I was being fleeced, so I came here. As you can see, I'm not a mechanic. Just a broke dude who can't afford to keep pouring money into my car. I have a 1995 Dodge Caravan that hasn't needed this much repair. |
I suggest you get the codes read and simply post the actual codes here, we will decipher those codes, while your there ask to have your battery load tested. Most parts palaces will do these for free!

Is it possible that the mechanic gave you someone else's keys?
Maybe you have a second key you can try? |
I tried both keys. The option is to have two new keys made and hope that does it, changing the computer, or doing both.
What I saw of the car that made me question not unhooking the battery was because I saw the things I had on the floor and it's all still in the exact same place. You have to move that stuff to get to the battery in the back of the car. That's why I asked the question. |
Broke dudes shouldn't be replacing parts because the thought it might fix it, whatever "it" is.
How the heck is replacing the BCM or keys going to fix anything? What exactly are you thinking an Ignition Control Module is? If anyone monkeyed around with the ignition switch when all of this stuff was going on they probably hooked the PK3 module up wrong or not at all, another possibility is a blown fuse on the BCM (in cab fuse box) #8 or #10. Maybe you could just buy another car and see if your keys work in it. That makes as much sense. If a 1995 Caravan hasn't had a new transmission the gods are feeling really good towards the owner. There's a big difference between proper testing and using the shotgun method. Your mechanic sounds like a typical parts changer.
