2006 HHR Intermittent Starting Problems

I have a 2006 HHR and a few months ago I started getting intermittent starting problems. Some days it starts on every turn, some days it won't start at all. When it doesn't start, it still has power. All the lights come on, radio turns on, alarm still works, etc... Usually it will start up after sitting for a few minutes, but on occasion it takes longer. (Over a day to start back up twice now) Here is a list of things I have already tried

-Replaced the starter
-Checked fuses related to starter and ignition
-Checked and cleaned both front and rear battery posts

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my wife's car that she uses for work. The sooner I can get this resolved, the better.

"doesn't start", means what? Starter does not run? Starter runs, but engine does not start? Starter runs and turns engine over, but does not "catch"? Starter turns, but engine does not turn over? ETC.

Have you had the ignition recall done, if so, when in relation to this problem?

Sorry, it will not crank, but I can hear the starter clicking. We got the ignition recall done about 2 years ago now, and the problem just started about 2 months ago.

If the Bendix is clicking but the starter motor is not turning and you have a new starter, that leaves ground connections and a possibility of a tooth gone missing on the "flywheel" ring.

Standard or auto?

Question: how old is the battery, and have you had it tested to ensure it is capable of putting out the right voltage AND amperage?

Cleaning the posts on a dead or dying battery wont help it work better. Also, now days, as I found with my HHR, batteries arent as simple as "dead or alive." MY battery was 10 years old and started intermittently having trouble turning the car over. Even seemed to have symptoms of a bad fuel pump but all it turned out to be was the battery. Pop open the hatch, look at the date on the battery and if its over 5 years old or, as was the case with my 2006, the original, replace it!!!!

Somehow my lying eyes read "new battery" in post #1. Yes, that is the most likely suspect.

The battery and the ground terminals.
