My 2006 rear hatch wont open with remote, I took it to dealer they said they had to replace the touchpad before they can check the actuator and lock assembly. Is this correct?

The hatch is not supposed to open with the remote. Unless you have a panel, then I'm not sure.

The remote doesn't open the rear hatch - it only "unlocks it", enabling the touchpad to do the actual unlatching allowing you to then open the hatch.

The touchpads have been known to fail - if it was my car, I'd dig into it, and bypass the touchpad to confirm it was the touchpad that was at fault - or throw a multimeter on the switch.

And check the fuse box for the position that is SUPPOSED to be empty. If there is a fuse in it the the touchpad will not work. There is a TSB about it.

I guess I have to be more specific.
It will not lock/unlock with remote or manual lock switch.
when I try to lock/unlock there is no sound form the touch pad like there used to be (click from unlocking or locking.
I have a manual as well as a Haynes repair book.
I've read most of the posts concerning this issue here and other sources.
I thought it was the actuator so I took it in to the dealer and that's when they told me they had to replace the touch pad just to diagnose further.
touch pad is only $40 but labor is outrageous.

My main question at this time is this correct?
Does the touch pad activate the actuator or is it the other way around.
Am I replacing a good pad or actuator.

I cant locate just the actuator have to buy the entire assembly and that's a dealer item.

If you spent the money on a Haynes manual, I would suspect that you also own a screwdriver or 2. All of the Haynes books I have seen have wiring schematics in them.

The signal goes from the pad/switch to the latch. The BCM turns the power on/off. The latch has the ajar switch and actuator in it (one piece).

The interior panel of the gate is relatively easy to remove, then a couple of screws to get to the touch pad. That's one way to save the outrageous labor at the dealer. The touchpads do break, mostly from people thinking that they are mechanical.

Did you look to make sure nobody installed fuse #11?
