I've merged your 2 threads, looks like you've been chasing this for quite awhile. In case anyone wants to look back and see if something that seemed unimportant back then may be important now.

I ended up buying another used module of the exact same part # and sending out to the shop on ebay for cloning. Wife now has a new car of only 25 miles LOL but everything is working! I now have a check engine light on but will have someone pull the codes and reset that. What a PITA this has been.

Please don’t have them clear the codes. Write them down and fix the problem.

P0315 Crankshaft Position Variation Not Learned.

So from my reading on here and other places this is likely caused by cam-chain and guide wear, seeing as the car runs just fine and has had cold start chain rattle since forever. Tentionor was upgraded to the newest model years ago. Even after replacing the chain it still needs to be taken to a good shop or dealer for the relearn procedure. Am I on the right track?? This code should have nothing to do with my just replacing the BCM?

Correct, nothing to do with BCM , it’s linked to worn timing chain, could be a loose or broken front guide.

NO!!!! nothing to do with any failure! P0315 means that you need to find a shop that has a computer capable of learning the crankshaft sensor variation. It is a result of a new ECM with a blank spot where the data should be.
I thought I had said that already. If you "read" that it means some mechanical problem you need to re read.

I thought you were talking BCM not ECM. The BCM is inside the car on the passenger foot well, the ECM is under the hood.

BCM was replaced. Not ECM.

Then somebody replaced the ECM and the code was masked by some other code or somebody reprogrammed it that didn't know how to.
If you disconnected the ECM with the key ON the stored value could have been erased. Anyway, the variation value is stored in the ECM memory, simply changing the BCM should have no effect.
I hope that you disconnected the battery when the BCM was replaced.

There are several sites that list (among other things) timing belt or chain as possible cause. So it would be prudent to inspect the timing components by removing the valve cover.

Also listed is a faulty crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor.
