are you also pushing the "set" button to set the speed?

I would check for codes. Some trouble code will disable the cruise control.

As donbrew says, check your brakelight bulbs. Especially the 3rd taillight. The cruise control power circuit relays through these.

Fwiw. The brake lights have to be illuminated at least once, each time the vehicle is started, before the cruise system can be engaged and operated.
( I found this out after cussing at the cruise for not working.)

How did you get it into gear without the brake on?
And there is an entirely technical argument with the wording "relays through", but close enough for ObamaWork.

There will never be a code on the dash, only a Check Engine Light. OBDII needs a scanner to get codes, not like the before 1998 cars.

5 speed donbrew. Parked in a flat parking lot beside a country highway. Hit the road( never touched the brakes), 16 miles of road and no traffic lights.
And no cruise cuz I didn't hit the brakes the whole way.

"Relays through" is my generic, "you know what I mean" term.

Forgot your 5-speed.
Purely technical, not worth it except for when somebody decides to take you literally, just wanted to muddy some more water.
